The tool identification plate is the ID or passport of a power tool. It contains the technical data required to identify and characterise the appliance.

In accordance with national and international safety regulations, tool identification plates must contain the following data:

- Name or trademark and manufacturer?s origin

- Manufacturer?s model or trade name

- Voltage rating (V)

- Symbol for the type of current (e. g. F for alternating voltage)

- Frequency rating (Hz)

- Power rating (W)

- Current rating (A)

- with some tools: idling speed

- with double insulated power tools: symbol for protection class II.

Marks of conformity can also be included. In addition the prescribed CE certification is shown on the tool identification plate.
