Sheet metal screws

Conventional threaded screws and self-tapping screws are of only limited use for screw connections of thin metal sheets since, after cutting the thread in the sheet, you can apply only minimal tightening torque, if any, to secure the screw connection. Sheet metal screws in accordance with DIN 7971, 7972, 7973, 7981, 7982 and 7983 in the standard slotted or Phillips versions can be used for direct screwdrving with sheeting up to a thickness of 0.88 mm without pilot drilling. Screws with blunted points or S-drill points should be used for thicker sheets. Single or double threaded screws developed especially for sheet metal ensure a firm hold. The recommended tool for this application is a drill/driver, whereas standard drills with electronic control should only be used as an exception.
