IC is the internationally accepted abbreviation for the monolithic or solid state integrated circuit. It is possible to combine all elements belonging to a semiconductor circuit, such as resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors and thyristors with their electrical connections on a single silicon chip. A plastic or ceramic housing encloses the finished chip. Rows of contact pins are available on both sides for easy connection. Large and medium series producing large unit numbers with this construction method help reduce the costs of production in comparison with the conventional assembly.
