Ceramic materials are similarly formed and shaped as sintered metals they obtain their characteristic properties by sintering at temperatures above 1000° C. Ceramic materials are often used in high voltage technology as insulators.

Metal-ceramic materials, so-called cermets, are combinations of metals and ceramic masses.

Hard metals such as WIDIA or TITANITE are materials made from metal or metal-carbide powders sintered together by heat.
