Steaming
By steaming over hot steam or through immersion in hot water tree trunks are softened before being cut into veneers. Depending on the cutting method used, trunks are steamed whole or first cut into pieces (flitches). Lighter types of wood are not softened up, since the colour of the veneer might suffer.
