Safety cutout clutch

The safety cutout clutch is an important feature in rotary hammers which provides maximum protection against the sudden blocking of drill bits. Two interlocking discs with cams are pressed together by a spring. When the torque increase is slow, for instance if the drilling dust is wet or badly removed, the clutch does not react and instead tries to free the drill bit. However, if the drill bit suddenly blocks, the clutch disengages and the torque transmission stops.

Example:

response torque = 60 Nm

disengagement torque = 10 Nm

This means maximum safety for the tool operator because it prevents the machine from being tossed about when the drill bit jams.
