Open-jawed spanner
Open-jawed spanners
are manual tools to tighten or to open screw connections. Open-jawed spanners are open towards the front and grip a hexagon nut on four sides. The screwdriving force is transferred by two contact faces.
Ring spanners
have contact with the hexagon nut on all six sides.
Socket spanners
also have contact with the hexagon nut on all six sides. Their disadvantage is that they have to be plugged onto the nut and therefore require room to move above the nut face.
