DIN, German Industry Standard
It sets uniform standards in order to make machine parts, measuring quantities and characteristic values comparable. These standardisations are recommendations which are nevertheless readily accepted. International standards sometimes differ substantially from their German counterparts which can be explained by the fact that they are based on other units of measurement.
