Diamond cutting discs
Diamond cutting segments are inseparably embedded in steel discs. High-quality diamonds are synthetically manufactured, whereas natural diamonds are brittle and tend to break easily. The diamonds are embedded in a metal carrier which has been hardened and permanently shaped by sintering. The cutting segments are connected to the carrier disc by hard-soldering, sintering or laser welding. The cutting performance of the segments depends on the size of the diamond chips and the hardness of the metal surface. Both have to suit the type of stone to be cut.
The general rule is: the harder the stone, the softer the bond, the softer the stone the harder the bond. Diamond cutting discs for stone cutting are far superior to conventional discs when it comes to work progress and service life expectancy.
Diamond cutting discs are sensitive to radial and axial run-out. For this reason the drive shafts and supporting elements have to be highly accurate.
Heat sensitivity has to be taken into consideration during diamond cutting. Deep cuts without water cooling should be avoided.
