Angular position measurement
Angles can be measured mechanically by using a calibrated scale on two legs flexibly connected to each-other.
In the electronic method of measurement the angle is captured by a sensor and transposed by a measuring element. A distinction is made between:
- absolute measuring:
a value proportional to the angle is measured and displayed.
- relative measuring:
the measured value is compared with a fixed, known quantity
and their ratio is evaluated and displayed as the result.
Relative measuring allows the compensation of deviations caused by ageing which leads to a higher measuring accuracy over the total life cycle.
