Fly-wheel transducer
Apart from the crank drive, the fly-wheel transducer is another possibility for electro-pneumatic hammers to transform the motor and transmission rotation into a stroke motion. The fly-wheel transducer is composed of:
- a shaft driven by the motor through a transmission.
- a ball bearing attached diagonally to a special arbor on the drive shaft
- a pivot which sits on the outer ring of the ball bearing, the ?tumble finger?
- a piston pin
- a piston
- a cylinder
When the shaft rotates, the ball bearing is set into a tumbling motion. The tumble finger slips into the piston pin and makes the piston execute a back and forth motion inside the cylinder.
